The new Map is open to everyone in beta, and your existing maps keep working as Classic maps. Quill stories also get book formatting, with exports to match.
Map Maker Beta
Paint land, rivers, and roads, size a map from an island to a continent, and work out travel times in 2D or 3D. Or upload a map image and get a 3D map back.
Book formatting for every story
In Publish, then Styling, choose indented paragraphs, scene break ornaments, drop caps, and small caps. Write text messages, letters, and emails in their own styles, and size images within the page.
A PDF typeset like a book
Your PDF is now typeset like a printed book, in your story's own typeface, with drop caps, small caps, running heads, page numbers, and a contents page. EPUB and Word exports follow your formatting too.
Invite people not on vvd yet
Invite anyone by email, even without a vvd account. They get an invitation, join automatically when they sign up with that address, and hold their seat in your member list until then.
Add a block where you want it
Right-click a block's title bar in a card and choose Add block, then Above, Below, Left, or Right. The new block lands exactly there instead of at the end.
Link cards to your timeline events
Drop sidebar cards onto an open event, or pick them from a searchable list filtered by card type. Drag events between lanes, or press and hold to move one on touch screens.

World pages load twice as fast
A world's content is ready in about half the time, every page downloads less, and opening documents, closing panels, and menus all respond faster.

YouTube videos and Apple Music join Spotify in your cards. Drag an embed's bottom edge to resize it, and a video that can't be embedded tells you why.
Give your prologue its own place
Tap the Chapter 1 label above a chapter to call it Prologue, Foreword, or anything else. Named chapters sit outside the count, so your real first chapter stays Chapter 1.

Pick your tab bar size
The workspace now has a thinner top bar. Choose a small, medium or large tab bar in World Info preferences, and pinned tabs expand when you select them.

Creating a folder now asks for its name, suggests icons that fit it, like a map pin for Locations, then offers a color, all inside the sidebar row.
Your recent blocks first
A card's add row now shows Text, Media and the blocks you used most recently, folds the rest away, and opens the Tools panel from a hammer button.
Faster, truer imports
Imports create documents in parallel, imported cards get a starting image from their type, and poems and lists keep their line breaks.
CSV files from any region

Timeline events with several cards
Link several cards to one timeline event, star the one that supplies its name and image, or give the event a custom name of its own.
Search images by what's in them
The media library's search now finds images by their content, so searching for castle or desert works even when the file is called IMG_4821.
Card images at their own shape
A card's header shows its image at its natural shape instead of forcing a portrait frame, and the cropper is free-form, trimming empty transparent edges for you.
Embed almost any web page
Paste a link to a page that allows embedding, like a Wikipedia article, and it appears live in your card, with back and forward buttons beside its name.
Tidy your workspace faster
Select a folder in the sidebar to select everything in it, Shift-click to select a range, and right-click a panel's header to close the others.

A card property can now be a select with colored options you can pick several of, a number, or a date with a day picker. Saved option lists can be reused.
Apple Pencil pressure on the Canvas
Press harder with an Apple Pencil and the line gets thicker, so sketches and handwriting on the Canvas look like real ink.
Hide a wiki section, cards included
The eye on a wiki section now asks what you mean: hide just the section from navigation, or hide every card inside it as a rule.
Manage your published sites
Deleting a published wiki or story takes its site down and frees its address. Remove old sites from the Domains list, and publish as many Quill stories per world as you like.
Delete a story from your shelf

A better light mode
Light worlds get their own wash, glass and grain with crisp black text, and the theme editor now sets a world's color with a single hue slider.
Smoother uploads
Upload several files at once and each one runs to the end. A file over the 25 MB limit offers to compress it or pick another, and failed uploads stay ready to retry.

Richer text and connectors on the Canvas
Use bold, italics, bullets and titles in canvas text, and pick elbow, straight or curved connectors. Frames now show as tinted glass with rounded corners.
Connect the people you already have
In a relation tree, drag between two cards to link them or pick someone across the tree. Edit a link's tag in place; deceased people get a small badge, not a gray portrait.
Create right where you click
Right-click a folder or card in the sidebar to make a new card, graph or folder inside it, instead of moving it there afterward.
Card links keep your words
Linking text to a card no longer replaces it with the card's name, and you can change the linked words whenever you like.

A home for each world
Every world now opens on its own home page, with your world graph spread behind it, a tile that restores the last tab you had open, and your recent documents close at hand.
Add tools to your world
Open Tools from any new tab to try and add the World Graph, Notes, character sheets, and Embed, which turns a link into the real video or post. Some need a paid plan.

Give a folder a color and it softly tints the folder and everything inside it in the sidebar. The icon picker suggests colors that match your theme and accepts hex codes.
A clearer account page
Account settings are split into Profile, Subscription and Preferences, showing your plan, renewal date and how many worlds, documents and storage you use. Back returns you to your world.
Map blocks update live
Maps embedded in cards now update as you or a collaborator edit the map, with no refresh needed.
Tab to indent
Press Tab or Shift+Tab to indent paragraphs in card text blocks, canvas notes and wiki blocks.
Quicker bulk delete
With several items selected, a trash button deletes them after one confirmation, and a folder button next to it groups them.
Manage from the world panel
The world info panel now holds Types, Media, Theme and Settings tiles, so you can manage your world from any tab.
Fixes7
BoardsCanvas tool shortcuts like V, H, D and T work again.
BoardsImages pasted into a canvas section are selected, so dragging moves the image, not the section.
BoardsEvery New canvas option now creates the same, current canvas.
BoardsCustom pen colors stick to each stroke, and tablet pens open the color picker.
WikiVery large worlds republish reliably.
EditorUploads on unstable connections retry on their own instead of failing.
EditorThe text cursor no longer disappears after you click into a text block.
Published wikis can now live at an address you own. Your world home also greets you with something new each day.
Custom domains for wikis
On Pro and Enterprise plans, connect your own domain, like wiki.example.com, to a published wiki. A step-by-step setup opens right from the publish menu.
A fresh welcome every day
Your world home greets you with a rotating message each day: a tip, a few stats about your world, or the radio station you last played.
World graph on your home
Search the world graph straight from your world home, or expand it to fill the screen.
Templates on every new card
Cards you create from an @mention or other quick paths now start with their type's template too.
Toolbar links become mentions
Linking selected text to a card from the toolbar now creates a regular mention, and picking from the @ list always uses the card's name rather than an alias.
Smoother closing
Close one of several open documents and the others glide over to fill the space.
Set up a card type once and every new card of that type starts ready to fill in. Map zones also get easier to reshape.
Card templates
Give any card type a template of sections and blocks, such as text, media, a map, a stat block or a player sheet. New cards of that type start with it.
Detach shared zone borders
Hold Shift while dragging a map zone's point to pull it away from its neighbors. Snapping now only links zones on the same layer, and the selected zone's points stay clickable.
Audio with waveforms
Audio files show as wide waveform cards in the media library, and audio blocks in your cards play with the same waveform player.
Full names in the sidebar
Document names now use the sidebar's full width. Action buttons appear only when you hover, so long names stop getting cut short.
A tidier Types window
Dragging to reorder card types and subtypes lands where you expect, long type names truncate cleanly, and the type editor's settings are easier to scan.
Fixes4
BoardsThe world graph now picks up mentions inside bulleted lists and block quotes.
EditorReference properties show card names instead of raw codes when the linked card's type differs.
EditorCard headers no longer flicker between layouts when three cards are open side by side.
EditorThe second paragraph in a text block no longer looks larger than the first.
Deleted documents now wait in a trash bin you can restore from, map zones snap together cleanly, and your wiki can take on a whole new look.
Restore what you delete
Deleting a card or document moves it to the trash bin, with an undo button right away. Open Trash Bin from Cmd+K to restore items or delete them for good.
Zones that share borders
Map zones that touch now share their corner points, so dragging one moves both. Corners snap to nearby zones while you draw or drag, at any zoom level.
New wiki templates
Pick a template from your wiki's toolbar: Synthwave Matrix, a neon cyberpunk look, or Wiki Traditional, a familiar encyclopedia layout with a contents sidebar and info box.
Subtypes in properties
Property types are grouped by type and subtype, and a reference to a type like Waterbodies now also lists cards of its subtypes, like Lakes.
Name cards as you create them
New cards open ready for a name, and double-clicking anything in the sidebar renames it in place.
A simpler pin icon picker
Choose a pin's icon, color and visibility in one panel, and pins dragged in from the sidebar now show the card's image.
One place to get help
The help button opens a single panel with in-app tutorials, video guides, support chat, feedback, What's New and the community.

The canvas is rebuilt from the ground up. Sketch, drop in cards and maps, and lay out ideas freely, while images across vvd load much faster.
Meet the new canvas
Create a canvas to draw with a pen or highlighter, add sticky notes, shapes, arrows and images, and place cards, maps and graphs side by side. Undo and redo work throughout.
Drag cards onto a canvas
Drop any card from the sidebar straight onto a canvas to place it there, complete with its type and image.
Images load faster
Card images, the media library and previews now load right-sized thumbnails, so pages fill in much sooner.
Linked cards as chips
Reference properties on a card show linked cards as chips you can search and add right in the row.
Aliases for characters and places
Character cards suggest their first name as an alias, and places like The Sword Coast suggest Sword Coast, so one click helps vvd catch more mentions.
See what text links to
Select text that already links to a card and the toolbar shows that card's image and name instead of a generic link button.
Clearer sidebar filters
The sidebar filter menu has a cleaner layout, and the filter button now shows how many filters are active.
Fixes3
EditorYour worlds list shows the right last-edited date for each world.
BoardsCanvases stay blurred behind when you open more documents beside them.

If your world holds thousands of cards, this week is for you: loading is about three times faster, the graph settles sooner and moving between tabs and panels feels lighter.
Large worlds load 3x faster
Your cards now load in parallel, so even worlds with tens of thousands of documents fill their sidebar, reference lists and wiki in a few seconds.
A graph that settles sooner
The world graph untangles itself 3 to 5 times faster, its connecting lines are softer, and the background grid now zooms and pans with your nodes.

Lighter tab switching
Moving between Home, World, Wiki and your other tabs uses a smoother animation and redraws less of the screen.
Stat blocks in every world
The 5e creature stat block and character sheet blocks are now available on cards in every world, not only worlds set up for tabletop games.
Choose what a world is for
A new World Features section in world settings lets you mark a world for fiction, wikis, campaigns and more, so vvd shows the tools that fit.
Fixes4
EditorThe media gallery no longer shows duplicate images or skips images after batch uploads.
EditorClicking a property's name on a card opens its editor again.
EditorText in guided templates wraps instead of stretching sideways.
BoardsThe graph's right-click menu opens where you clicked.
We rebuilt how dragging works in your sidebar, so organizing a big world feels quicker and pinning cards to maps and canvases does what you expect.
A quicker sidebar
The sidebar does far less work as you scroll, hover and drag, so large worlds stay responsive. Heavier editors now load only when you open them, which speeds up the first load.
More reliable drag to sort
Reordering cards and folders, or nesting one inside another, by dragging in the sidebar now lands where you drop it.
See where a card will land
Drag a card from the sidebar over a map, a canvas or your pinned cards and the preview changes shape to show the pin or card it will become.
Fixes7
EditorDropping a sidebar card onto a map or canvas pins it instead of opening it.
EditorReordering open panels no longer leaves a blank panel behind.
MapMaps opened in focus no longer sit behind a frosted overlay.
EditorThe media library's multi-select footer is no longer cut off.
EditorCard header images no longer keep a blurry glow after they load.
EditorCard names size to fit when many panels are open.

Revision history
vvd saves versions of your cards, maps, canvases and graphs as you edit, plus daily, weekly and monthly snapshots. Restore one from the document header, and press Cmd+Z to undo it.
Big worlds open sooner
Wiki card pages open right away in worlds with tens of thousands of cards while the sidebar fills in behind them, and automatic card linking keeps up in very large worlds.
A lighter home graph
The graph on your world home rests once it settles and draws big worlds with far less effort, so it stays smooth even with hundreds of cards.
Friendlier guided templates
Guided templates keep your answers if you step away, and after a card is created, Cmd+Z takes you back to the form.
Clearer delete buttons
Confirm buttons now say exactly what will happen, like Delete Card, Delete 3 Cards or Remove Member, instead of a plain Delete.
Fixes2
EditorCard image buttons stay visible on iPad and other touch screens.
CollaborationCollaborators editing the same sentence no longer end up with doubled mentions.
Your images are easier to sort and safer to delete, your radio picks up where you left off, and you can cancel a plan right from your settings.
Sort and filter your media
Sort media by newest, oldest or name, and switch between your uploads and public images. Before you delete an image, vvd lists the cards that use it, then removes it from them.
Radio picks up where you left off
Your world home suggests the last radio station you played, plus two more in the same genre. One click starts the music, and new station icons make them easy to spot.
Accent-friendly wiki search
Wiki home search now matches names with accents and special characters, so typing Eowyn finds Éowyn.
Scroll to zoom graphs
Zoom in and out of graphs with your scroll wheel or trackpad, without holding Cmd or Ctrl.
Cancel from your settings
You can now cancel a paid plan from settings or your account page and tell us why. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.

Link your maps to each other, give your world over 100 new icons, and return to the editor without waiting for it to load again.
Pins that open other maps
Pins and zones can now link to another map, not just a card. Drag a map from the sidebar onto your map to drop a linked pin, and wiki readers can follow it.
Layer order on maps
Bring zones, pins and text forward or send them back from the layer picker, so the right thing always sits on top.
Over 100 new icons
New creature, item, location, weather and number icons for fantasy, horror and sci-fi worlds, plus dark fantasy, grimdark and mythology genres. The icon picker now has six simpler tabs.
Instant return to the editor
The editor stays ready in the background when you visit Home or Wiki, so coming back is instant instead of a reload of up to two seconds.
Search on your wiki home
The wiki home page now has a quick card search, both in vvd and on published wikis. It matches card aliases and forgives small typos.

Right-click a folder and choose New Card to open a searchable list of your card types. Use the arrow keys and Enter, and the folder opens to show the new card.
Rename and delete types in place
Rename a type right in the Types window. When you delete a type that has subtypes, choose whether they go with it or move up a level.
Keep pins off the published map
Hide individual pins and regions from your published map while keeping them in the editor. Hidden items stay slightly faded, so you always know what readers will not see.
Reset the map view
A new reset button brings both zoom and position back to the starting view, so a map you zoomed into a corner never drifts off-screen.
See what will not publish
Cards and maps marked as hidden now show a small icon in the sidebar, so you can tell at a glance what stays out of your published wiki.

Sign in beside a rotating gallery of artwork by real artists, complete with each piece's color palette and credit. The page works on phones too.

Every campaign gets a page on your published wiki with the party, upcoming sessions and a join button, plus a preview image when you share the link.

Design your wiki's home page
Pick the cards to feature on your wiki's home page, then drag and resize them into a grid that readers see when they arrive.
Sort, group and color your sidebar
An expanded sidebar view sorts by name, date or type and groups items by type or age. Folders get custom icons and colors, and deleting one asks whether to keep what is inside.

Reordered items glide into place, long lists scroll smoothly, and the sidebar remembers the width you gave it. Click the left of a row to open it, the right to expand it.
Control name detection
A switch in the sidebar's filter menu turns name detection on or off. When it is on, vvd only rechecks the text you changed, and linking a detected name saves it as an alias.
A livelier home screen
Your world's home now greets you with a rotating mix of worldbuilding facts, tips, radio picks and community polls you can vote on.
Twenty achievements to earn
The achievement ring in the top bar now tracks 20 milestones, like using five block types or nesting folders three levels deep. A new tab shows what you have earned and what is next.
Clearer map labels and pins
New map labels start as clean white text, the T shortcut adds a label again, curving a label takes less dragging, and pin color and size menus sit right beside the pin.
Hidden radio stations
Some radio stations are now hidden off the dial. Tune slowly and listen for morse code to find them.
Fixes6
EditorYour custom sidebar order now sticks after a refresh instead of regrouping by type.
EditorCropped card images now show correctly as sidebar thumbnails.
EditorDeleting a world no longer fails with an error.
EditorOpening a card's page from a direct link no longer shows an error.
EditorThe landing page's continue button opens your latest world, not your worlds list.
EditorYour worlds list now puts the world you opened most recently at the top.
Your world is yours. You can now export everything you have written as plain Markdown files, and moving around vvd takes one bar instead of two.
Export your world
Open Settings and choose World Export to download every card as a Markdown file with its details at the top. Follow its progress, cancel it, and run up to five exports an hour.
One navigation bar
Home, the editor, Wiki, Create and Quill now sit together in a single bar, so you no longer flip between separate World and Create modes.
Static between stations
The radio now crackles with static while you tune between stations, then brings your music back once you settle on one.
New icons for your worlds
Five new icons join the fantasy set: a castle, a great wall, a mountain, a ring and a rebel emblem.
Delete any invite
Every invite on your invites dashboard now has a delete option, and its menu opens reliably on the first click.
Fixes4
EditorText in card blocks uses your theme's font again.
AccountMuting sound during onboarding also silences the radio, and unmuting brings the music back.
BoardsClicking outside a node's details in the graph now closes the panel.
WikiEditing a card's properties on its wiki page now updates right away.
As you write, vvd spots the characters and places in your text. This week it does that almost as you type, and your published wikis open faster for readers.
Faster name detection
vvd now recognizes names in your writing a fraction of a second after you type, instead of waiting for a long pause, and remembers what it already found so it rechecks less.
Published wikis open faster
Published wiki pages are now kept ready between visits, so readers wait less. They still update as soon as you publish again.
Fixes3
AccountTutorials you finish or dismiss now stay closed instead of coming back.
QuillImages in stories you publish from Quill now appear on the published page.
WikiLinks inside a wiki published on its own subdomain now open the right page.
